Hai friend,

here is your answer,

Number of children =40

Part of children on train =1/8

1/8x=40

x=40*8=320

Total number of persons on train =320

Part of adults on train =1-1/8
=7/8

Number of adults =7/8x
=7*320/8
=280

➡ therefore 280 adults are there on train

hope helped!!

Let the total passengers = x
Given
Number of children = 40
(1/8) *x =40
x=40*8
x=320
Therefore
Total passengers =x =320
Number of adults = x - number of children
= 320-40
=280
