1.82g of a metal requires 32.5 ml of 1N HCLto dissolve it.whatis the the equivalent weight of metal?

Molecular weight of HCl is (1+35.5) =36.5

1000ml 1N HCl contains 36.5g HCl

1ml 1N HCl contains 36.5/1000 g HCl

32.5ml 1N HCl contains (36.5/1000)X32.5 g HCl = 1.18625g

2HCl → H2 + 2Cl-

2X36.5g=73g 2g

73g HCl produces 2g H2

1g HCl produces 2/73 g H2

1.18625g HCl produces (2/73)X1.18625 g H2 = 0.0325g H2

Metal on reaction with HCl will produce metal chloride and H2.

0.0325g H2 is replaced by 1.82g metal

1g H2 is replaced by 1.82/0.0325 g metal = 56g metal

So equivalent weight of metal is 56
