Answer:

1.

Given:

Mass = 1300kg

Acceleration = 20m/s

Time = 2s

Force = ?

F = ma/2

F = 1300 x 20 ÷ 2

F = 26000 ÷ 2

F = 13000 N

∴ The average Force of the car is 13000N.

2.

Given:

F= 750N

t = 0.002s

Impulse =?

Impulse = Force × time

750 N×0.002 s = 1.5 Ns

∴ The impulse of the tennis ball is 1.5 Ns

Concept

A force is an effect that can alter an object's motion according to physics. An object with mass can change its velocity, or accelerate, as a result of a force. An obvious way to define force is as a push or a pull. A force is a vector quantity since it has both magnitude and direction.

Given

  • For question 1 a  1300-kg car moving at 20m/s hits the fence and comes to a stop in 2 s.
  • For question 2 a lady tennis player hits an approaching ball with a force of 750 N. If she hits the ball in 0.002

Find

  • For question 1 we have to find average forced acted to the car
  • For question 2 we have to find impulse imparted to the tennis ball

Solution

For question 1:

  • Given:

Mass = 1300kg

Acceleration = 20m/s

Time = 2s

Force = ?

F = ma/2

F = 1300 x 20 ÷ 2

F = 26000 ÷ 2

F = 13000 N

For question 2:

  • Given:

F= 750N

t = 0.002s

Impulse =?

Impulse = Force × time

750 N×0.002 s = 1.5 Ns

Hence average forced acted to the car will be 13000 N and impulse imparted to the tennis ball will be 1.5 Ns
