Given :

A 5m wide lawn is cultivated all long outside of a rectangular plot measuring 90m × 40m.

To find :

  • Area of the lawn

Solution :

Inner length of rectangular plot (l) = 90m

Inner breadth of rectangular plot(b)= 40m

  • A lawn is 5 m wide

Outer length of plot (L) = 90+5+5 = 100m

Inner breadth of plot (B) = 40+5+5 = 50m

Area of inner rectangular plot

→ length × breadth

→ l × b

→ 90 × 40

→ 3600 m²

•°•Inner area of rectangular plot= 3600m²

________________________________

Area of outer rectangular plot

→ length × breadth

→ L × B

→ 100 × 50

→ 5000m²

•°•Outer area of rectangular plot=5000m²

________________________________

Area of the lawn

★ Outer area of rectangular plot - Inner area of rectangular plot

→ 5000 - 3600

→ 1400m²

•°• Area of the lawn = 1400m²

Answer:

Given :-

  • A 5 metre wide lawn is cultivated all long outside of a rectangular plot by measuring 90 m × 40 m.

To Find :-

  • What is the area of the lawn.

Solution :-

Given :

  • Length of inner rectangle = 90 m
  • Breadth of inner rectangle = 40 m
  • Thickness of lawn = 5 m

First, we have to find the outer rectangle of length and breadth,

Length of outer rectangle,

90 + 5 + 5

95 + 5

100 m

Hence, the length of outer rectangle is 100 m.

Breadth of outer rectangle,

40 + 5 + 5

45 + 5

50 m

Hence, the breadth of outer rectangle is 50 m.

Now, we have to find the area of lawn,

As we know that,

Area of lawn = Area of outer rectangle - Area of inner rectangle

According to the question by using the formula we get,

Area of lawn = (100 × 50) - (90 × 40)

Area of lawn = (5000) - (3600)

Area of lawn = 5000 - 3600

Area of lawn = 1400

The area of lawn is 1400 m2 .
