We know,

v = u + at

v = final velocity

u = initial velocity

a = acceleration

t = time

t = 10 sec = 10/3600 hr

40 = 0 + a*(1/360)

a = 40*360 = 14400 km/hr^2

In m/s^2

a = 14400 * 1000/(3600*3600)

= 14400 * (1/18*720)

= 1.11 m/s^2
