Given :  A cereal company finds that if it spends $40,000 on advertising, then 100,000 boxes of cereal will be sold, and of it spends $60,000, then 200,000 boxes will be sold.

To Find : (a)  a linear equation that relates the amount A spent on ads to the number x of boxes sold.

(b) advertising  needed to sell 300,000 boxes of cereal?

(c)  slope of your linear function.

Solution:

Amount Spent  = A

Boxes sold  =  x

x  =  mA  + C

100000 = 40000m  + C

200000= 60000m + C

=> 100000 = 20000m

=> m = 5

=> C = -1000000

a linear equation that relates the amount A spent on ads to the number x of boxes sold.

=> x = 5A  - 100000

or 5A = x + 100000

300000  = 5A - 100000

=> A = 80000

$80,000  advertising is needed to sell 300,000 boxes of cereal?

Slope is 5
