A container contains 520 litres of mixture of milk and water in the ratio 17 : 3, respectively. If 80 liters of mixture is replaced with 28 liters of milk, then the ratio of milk to water in the final mixture is 67 : 11

Option (c) is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

The ratio of milk and water = 17 : 3

80 litres of mixture is replaced by 28 litres of milk

Thus, now the mixture is = 520 - 80 = 440 litres

The ratio of the milk and the water in this mixture will be the same

Let the common ratio is x

Then

17x + 3x = 440

20x = 440

x = 22

Thus, milk in this mixture is = 22 ×  17 = 374 litres

Water in this mixture = 22 × 3 = 66 litres

If 28 litres of milk is added then

The volume of milk = 374 + 28 = 402 litres

Ratio of milk and water

= 402/66

= 67/11

= 67 : 11

Hope this answer is helpful.

Given :-

  • Total quantity of mixture = 520 litres
  • Ratio of milk to water in the mixture = 17:3

According to Question :-

80 litres of mixture is taken out

now, new quantum is = 440 litres

However, ratio of milk to water remains same as some quantity of mixture is taken out of total quantity

therefore, water and milk will be taken out in the same ratio.

Now, milk to water ratio = 17x : 3x

And total quantity is 440 litres

Therefore :-

==> 20x = 440

==> x = 22

Now :-

Quantity of milk = 17×22 = 374

Quantity of water = 3×22 = 66

Now, 28 litres of milk is added in the mixture therefore, new quantity of milk will be = 374+28 = 402

Therefore :-

Quantity of water remain unchanged = 66

Final ratio of milk:water = 402:66

Final ratio of milk:water = 67:11

Hence:-

The required answer is 67:11.
