Given:

1) Force = 1200 N

Area = 10 cm²

2) Force = 20,000 N

Area = 1000 cm²

To find:

Pressure = ?

Solution:

1) 1 cm² = 10^-4 m²

10 cm² = 10^-3 m²

Pressure = Force/ Area

Pressure = 1200/ 10^-3

Pressure = 1200 × 10³

Thus, Pressure = 1200000 N/m²

2) 1 cm² = 10^-4 m²

1000 cm² = 10^-1 m²

Pressure = Force / Area

Pressure = 20000/10^-1

Pressure = 20000 × 10¹

Thus, Pressure = 200000 N/ m²

Required Answer:

Therefore,

  1. The pressure on the surface is 12,00,000 N/m²
  2. The pressure exerted by elephant on ground is 2,00,000 N/m²

Basic Points:

# Unit of pressure is Newton per square meter(N/m²) or Pascal(Pa)

# 1 Pa = 1 N/ m²= 1 × 10 ^ -5 bar
