a) Calcium sulphate hemihydrate ( Plaster of Paris )

Chemical formula: CaSO₄·½H₂O

It is prepared by the heating of gypsum

CaSO₄·2H₂O----∆----> CaSO₄·½H₂O + 3/2 H₂O

b)Temperature should be controlled very carefully, while preparing plaster of paris from gypsum heat must be controlled as overheating may result in loss of entire water of crystallization resulting in formation of dead plaster
