His Father age = 4x years

After 16 years:

Age of son = (x+16) years

A man is 4 times as old as his son. After 16 years he will be only twice as old as his son. Find their  present ages.

\mathfrak{\huge{\green{\underline{To \: Find:-}}}}

The present age of the son.

The present age of the man.

\mathfrak{\huge{\green{\underline{Solution:-}}}}

Let the present age of father be x and the son be y.

Now,

\sf x=4y

After 16 years,

Age of father will be \sf x+16

Age of son will be \sf y+16

Therefore,

\sf x + 16 = 2( y + 16)

\sf x + 16 = 2y + 32

\sf x = 2y + 16

Finding the value of y,

\sf 2y = 16

\sf y=\dfrac{16}{2}

\sf y=8

Getting back to the value of x,

\sf x=4 \times 8

\sf x=32

Hence, the present age of father is 32 years and present age of son is 8 years.
