Answer:

Height of plane above the sea level. Floating a submarine below the sea level. ∴ The vertical distance between the plane and the submarine. Thus, the vertical distance between the plane and the submarine is 6200 m.

Concept

Integer is a whole number that can be negative, positive or zero

Given

1) Plane is flying at height of 4000 m above sea level

2) Submarine floating 1000m below the sea level

Find

Vertical distance between them

Solution

Here we will use concept of integers

Let sea level be origin

Above of sea level is positive

Below of sea level is negative

Height of the plane above sea level 4000m

Depth of submarine below the sea level -1000m

Vertical distance between them

= 4000 - (-1000)

= 4000 + 1000

= 5000m

The vertical distance between a plane flying at height of 4000 m above sea level and a submarine floating 1000 m below the sea level is 5000m.
