• Number of 5 rupee coins is 14

Given :

• The sum of the coins is 38 and the total value of the coins is ₹118.

To find :

• Number of coins

Solution :

• Let the number of two rupee coins be x
• Let the number of five rupee coins be y

Given that, sum of the coins is 38 then

• x + y = 38 is equation (1)

And also given that , the total value of the coins is ₹118 so,

• 2x + 5y = 118 is equation (2)

Now , we have to multiply equation (1) by 2 we get,

》2 × x + y = 38

》2x + 2y = 76 is equation (3)

Now , Subtracting equation (3) from equation (2) we get,

》2x + 2y = 76 - 2x + 5y = 118

》3y = 42

》y = 14

》y = 14

Hence , Number of 5 rupee coins is 14

Now we have to find the number of 2 rupee coins

x + y = 38

x + 14 = 38

x = 38 - 14

x = 24

Number of 2 rupee coins is 24

Hence

• Number of 5 rupee coins is 14
• Nunber of 2 rupee coins is 24

Where , x is 24 and y is 14

》x + y = 38

》24 + 14 = 38
