1. A rectangular garden has a length of 5 m longer than its width and an area
of 14 m2.Find the length and width of the garden.​

Answer:

Let the width of the garden be x.

So the length of the garden = x+5.

And area of the garden = 14m².

ATQ,

x × (x+5) = 14

or, x² + 5x = 14

or, x² + 5x - 14 = 0

Now, using by splitting the middle term..

we, get

x²+7x-2x-14=0

or, x(x+7)-2(x+7)=0

or, (x-2)(x+7)=0

or, x=2 & x= -7

( measurements can't be negative).

So x= 2

Then,

width of the garden = 2m

And length of the garden = x+5= 2+5= 7m.

Hence , the length and width of the garden is 7m&2m respectively.
