1. The length of one side of the small square is 3 inches, hence, its area is (3*3)sq.inche =9 sq.inches

The length of one side of the big square is 7 inches, so, the area of the big square is =(7*7)sq.inches=49 sq. inches

By subtracting, ( 49-9)sq.inches=40sq. inches.

Area located outside the small square is 40sq inches & its inside is 9sq.inches gradually.
