1. A steel rod 10 mm diameter is encased in a copper tube of external diameter 36 mm and internal diameter 24 mm with help of washers and nut. The nut is tightened so as to produce a tensile force of 400 N/cm² in the steel rod. This combination is then subject to a tensile load of 2N. Determine the resultant stresses in steel rod and copper tube, if: Es=2Ec=2100 N/cm² Now, if the temperature of assembly is raised by 20°C, determine the final stresses developed in the rod and tube after the rise in temperature. CN 12 x 10-6/°C ac 17.5 x 106/C
