1. A stone is dropped freely in the river from a bridge. It takes 5 s to touch the water surface in the river.
Calculate:
(a) The height of the bridge from the water level.
(b) The distance covered by stone in the last second (g = 9.8 m/s²).

Explanation:

s=ut +1/2at^2

[ u=0]

s= 1/2(9.8)*(5)^2

s=122.5m

now,

distance in last second= dist in last sec - dist in second last second

so dist covered by 4 second is

s=1/2at^2

s=1/2(9.8)(4)^2

s=78.4m

so dist in last second is 122.5-78.4

=44.1 meters
