Let the cost of a literature book be l.

The mathematics book = (l + 2)

Cost of 5 literature books is 5 × l = 5l

This is 38 more than the cost of 3 maths books.

Three maths books :

3 (l + 2) = 3l + 6

Relating the two :

5l = 3l + 6 + 38

5l - 3l = 44

2l = 44

l = 44/2

l = 22

The cost of one literature book is thus :

Rs 22
