Step : 1  Let the total distance between Mumbai and Pune be D.

Also, we assume that the trains cross each other at a time given by x.

Speed of train which leaves Pune is given by  D/4​  and that which leaves Mumbai is given by  D/3.5

$​(\mathrm{x}-7.30 \mathrm{am}) \times \frac{\mathrm{D}}{4}+(\mathrm{x}-9.30 \mathrm{am}) \times \frac{\mathrm{D}}{3.5}=\mathrm{D}$

Let x−9.30 am be y

$\begin{aligned}& \therefore x-7.30 a m=y+2 \\& \Rightarrow \frac{2(y+2)}{8}+\frac{2 y}{7}=1\end{aligned}$

$\begin{aligned}& \Rightarrow 14 \mathrm{y}+28+16 \mathrm{y}=56 \\& \therefore \mathrm{y}=\frac{28}{30} \text { hours }=56 \text { minutes } \\& \therefore \mathrm{x}=10.26 \mathrm{am}\end{aligned}$
