1. A uniform metre rule of weight 16.0 N is pivoted at the 60 cm mark. A 4.0 N weight is
suspended from one end. At the instant when the rule is horizontal, what is the value of the
resultant turning moment about the pivot?

Answer:

Torque due to load =4N×40cm=1.6Nm

Torque due to weight of the rule =2N×10cm=0.2Nm

Both are in opposite to each other so net torque =1.6−0.2=1.4Nm
