1. Divide 5000 by 100
2. Multiply the result with 90 for the first offer and 80 for the second
3. Since the results will be 4500 and 4000
4. Minus 4000 from 4500
5 and the answer will be 500

The difference in two selling prices is 500

Given :

  • A wrist watch with MRP 5000 is available in two showrooms at different offers.

  • First one is offering additional 40% off after a discount of 50% on MRP.

  • Second is offering 80% discount on MRP 5000

To find :

The difference in two selling prices

(1) 400

(2) 500

(3) 1000

(4) 1500

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Calculate the selling price in first shop

MRP of the wrist watch = 5000

Now after a discount of 50% on MRP the amount will be

\displaystyle \sf   = 5000 \times  \frac{50}{100}

\displaystyle \sf = 2500

Again after additional 40% the selling price at first shop will be

\displaystyle \sf   = 2500 \times  \frac{60}{100}

\displaystyle \sf = 1500

Step 2 of 3 :

Calculate the selling price in second shop

Second shop is offering 80% discount on MRP 5000

The selling price in second shop

\displaystyle \sf =5000 - \bigg(5000 \times \frac{80}{100}\bigg)

\displaystyle \sf = 5000 - 4000

\displaystyle \sf = 1000

Step 3 of 3 :

Calculate difference in two selling prices

Selling price in first shop = 1500

Selling price in second shop = 1000

∴ The difference in two selling prices

= 1500 - 1000

= 500

Hence the correct option is (2) 500
