Answer:

Fraction = \frac{3}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the fraction be \frac{x}{y}

so, ATQ,

1) \frac{x+1}{y+1} = \frac{1}{2}

=> \frac{2(x+1)}{1(y+1)} = 1

=> \frac{2x + 2}{y+1)} = 1

=> 2x+2 = y+1

=> y = 2x +1 ———————(1)

2) \frac{x-1}{y-1} = \frac{1}{3}

=> \frac{3(x-1)}{1(y-1)} =1

=> \frac{3x - 3}{y-1)} = 1

=> 3x - 3 = y - 1

=> y = 3x - 2 ———————(2)

From (1) and (2)

2x + 1 = 3x - 2

3x - 2x = 1 + 2

x = 3.

y = 2(3) +1

y = 7

Fraction = \frac{3}{7}

Verification =

1) \frac{3+1}{7+1} = \frac{4}{8} => \frac{1}{2}

2) \frac{3-1}{7-1} = \frac{2}{6} => \frac{1}{3}

HENCE PROVED.
