There are 41 boys in the row.

Given:

Akshay is 16th from the left end in the row of boys and vijay is 18th from the right end.

Avinash is 11th from akshay towards the right end and 3rd from vijay towards the right end.

To find:

The number of boys in the row.

Solution:

Step 1 of 2:

Avinash is 11th from akshay towards the right end

11 boys are there from Avinash to Akshay

Akshay is 16th from the left end in the row of boys

16 boys are there from Akshay to the end of the row from left.

Total number of boys from Avinash from the left end = 16 + 11

Total number of boys from Avinash from the left end = 27 boys

Avinash is 3rd from vijay towards the right end.

Vijay is 18th from the right end.

Total number of boys from Avinash from the right end = 18 - 3

Total number of boys from Avinash from the right end  = 15 boys

Step 2 of 2:

By knowing the 2 position of Avinash we can determine the number of boys in the row.

Therefore,

Number of boys in the row = 27 + 15 - 1

Number of boys in the row = 42 - 1

Number of boys in the row = 41 boys

41 boys were there in the row.
