1)an iron ail sinks in water but a huge ship made of iron floats on water, why? 2)how does a hot air ballons rase up?

1) As most of the space in the boat is taken up by air so it causes the overall density of boat to be lesser than that of water. Whereas, the density of the iron nail is more than that of water. Due to this the iron nail sinks while the boat floats on the surface of the water.

2) Hot air balloons work because hot air rises. By heating the air inside the balloon with the burner, it becomes lighter than the cooler air on the outside. This causes the balloon to float upwards, as if it were in water. Obviously, if the air is allowed to cools, the balloon begins to slowly come down.

because the density of the iron nail is more than the density of water. But a ship made up of an iron does not sink because the ship is hollow and it's empty space contains air which makes the average density of ship less than that of water.
