  • Rs. 166982 .

Given :- Arun sells a washing machine for 311,700 making a profit of 12 % and a sofa set at a loss of 20%. Arun has no profit and no loss on the overall transaction .

To Find :- The C.P. of the sofa set is ?

Solution :-

Washing Machine :-

→ SP = Rs. 311700

→ Profit = 12%

So,

→ CP = (SP × 100) / (100 + Profit%)

→ CP = (311700 × 100) / (100 + 12)

→ CP = (311700 × 100) / 112

→ CP = Rs. 278303.6

Sofa set :-

Let us assume that, CP of the sofa set is Rs. 100x .

So,

→ CP = Rs. 100x

→ Loss = 20%

then,

→ SP = {CP × (100 - Loss%)}/100

→ SP = {100x × (100 - 20)}/100

→ SP = (100x × 80)/100

→ SP = Rs. 80x .

therefore,

→ Total CP = CP of washing machine + CP of sofa set

→ Total CP = Rs. (278303.6 + 100x)

and,

→ Total SP = SP of washing machine + SP of sofa set

→ Total SP = Rs. (311700 + 80x)

since arun has no profit and no loss on the overall transaction ,

→ Total CP = Total SP

→ (278303.6 + 100x) = (311700 + 80x)

→ 100x - 80x = 311700 - 278303.6

→ 20x = 33396.4

multiply both sides by 5,

→ 20x × 5 = 33396.4 × 5

→ 100x = Rs. 166982 (Ans.)

Hence, the C.P. of the sofa set is equal to Rs. 166982 .
