It is extremely crucial for a researcher to cite the source of information that has been incorporated in the review because of the following reasons:

1. To strengthen your review- If one does not cite sources, it is difficult to judge what information is factual and what has been made up. There is no place for made up information in research. It needs to be scientific, logical and the sources serve as the basic structure on which to build a review.

2. To acknowledge the hard work of others- Since one individual does not have all the knowledge about a particular topic, we need to draw information from the knowledge of others. By citing sources, we acknowledge the effort made by others in the same field. It is important to give due credit to the pioneers.

3. To avoid plagiarism- Not giving credit while using someone else's ideas amounts to plagiarism. Plagiarism is a serious issue and people can be expelled from educational institutions because of stealing someone's work.

It is for these reasons that citation is a mandatory part of research.

Explanation:

Failure of citing the source of information when conducting any research study can lead to following issues;

Authenticity of research;

One cannot give a reference of something unless it is traceable and is authentic

Plagiarism;

One cannot re quote the research conducted by others in the research. It has to be mentioned that this has been taken from that source.

Taking credit of others;

The work done by someone else should be acknowledge by giving references of that person
