1. Assertion : The value of y is 6, for which the distance between the points P(2,-3) and Q(10, y) is 10.
Reason: Distance between two given points A(X1,Y1) and B(Xz, y2) is given by AB = (x2 – xy)2 + (y2 – y.)2
o Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct explanation of (A)
Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is not the correct explanation of (A)

Solution :-

we know that, distance between two given points A(X1,Y1) and B(X2, y2) is given by :-

  • AB = √[(x2 – x1)² + (y2 – y1)²]

so, distance between P(2,-3) and Q(10, y) is 10 .

then,

→ 10 = √[(10 - 2)² + (y + 3)²]

squaring both sides,

→ 10² = 8² + (y + 3)²

→ 100 - 64 = (y + 3)²

→ 36 = (y + 3)²

→ (±6)² = (y + 3)²

→ y + 3 = ± 6

therefore,

→ y = 6 - 3 = 3 or,

→ y = - 6 - 3 = (-9)

so,

Assertion : The value of y is 6, for which the distance between the points P(2,-3) and Q(10, y) is 10.

  • False .

Reason: Distance between two given points A(X1,Y1) and B(X2, y2) is given by AB = (x2 – x1)² + (y2 – y1)² .

  • False .

Hence, Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are False .
