1) The poet has one view but his neighbour has a different view. The poet thinks there is no need for a fence orwall between neighbours, especially when the author's area has apple trees and the neighbour's area has pine trees.

2) Bob describes Jimmy to the policeman on the beat, telling him that Jimmy Wells is "the finest chap in the world." He adds that they were like brothers, and Jimmy was very loyal. However, he adds that Jimmy had a weakness as he was always "a kind of plodder," meaning that Jimmy would not be competitive and take chances.
