yes it can cause an headache when the letters are very small to read.

How do we see images?

The light gets reflected into our eyes and the image is captured and then,the message is sent to the brain and then, we can see the image.

have you observed? If the letters are small, you stretch your eyes, this is for that light ( huge amount  of light ) to pass through your eyes.

By stretching, I  meant , when the distance is far, you shorten your eyes. This is stretching of your eyes. If your stretch your eyes for too long, then you surely would get a headache
