Given:

  • 1. Can two obtuse angles be supplementary?
  • 2. Can two acute angles be supplementary?
  • 3. Can two right angles be supplementary?

To Find:

  • The answers to above questions.

Solu :

1) Can two obtuse angles be supplementary?

Ans) No , two obtuse angle can ' t be supplementary. As we know that the measure of supplementary angle is 180° . And the value of obtuse angle is Greater than 90° but less than 180° . If we happen to take values of two angles one more than 90° , their sum will exceed 180° .

For ex - Take 90.005° and 90.001° and (90.005+90.001)°=180.006° , which is greater than 180°.

2) Can two acute angles be supplementary?

Ans) No , this is not a possible case . Value of acute angle is less than 90°. And the minimum values of two angle to be equal to 180° is 90° and 90°, if value of one is less than this then the other will have to exceed 90° , which is not possible here , so it will not be equal to 180°.

For ex - Take 89.09° and 89.9° and (89.09°+89.9°)=178.99° ≈ 179° , which is less than 180° .

3) Can two right angles be 180° ?

Ans) Yes , this is very much true. Sum of two right angles is (90+90)° = 180° .
