1. Cesar drove his tricyle 10 kilometers north, He stopped for lunch and
drove another 8 kilometers south, What distance did he cover? What was
the displacement?

Distance covered from origin towards north is 10km.

Then as he went 8km south. This means he drove back to origin.

Now

As distance is a scalar quantity, this means disatnce is the total of what he travelled. So the distance is 18km.

Displacement is a vector quantity which means it is the shortest distance from origin. Therefore it is 10-8 which is 2km.
