1.The chemical formula of formic acid is CH2O2.
2.Baking soda is applied on the stung area because rubbing a mild base like baking soda solution on the stung area gives relief, as it neutralises the acidic liquid injected by the bee. But when a wasp stings a person, it releases an alkaline liquid into the skin. Thus rubbing with mild acid like vinegar on the affected area gives relief.
3.Reaction for above,
=>HCOOH +NaOH =====>HCOONa +H2O
4.Saponification: Esters react in the presence of an acid or a base to give back the alcohol and carboxylic acid. This is called saponification reaction. This is reverse reaction of esterification reaction. CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH → CH3-COOH + CH3-CH2-OH
5.Esterification is a chemical reaction used for making esters. The reaction in which a Caboxylic acid combines with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst (commonly concentrated sulfuric acid) to form an ester [CH3COOC2H5] is called Esterificatin reaction.

(1). The chemical formula of formic acid ? .
→ The chemical formula of formic acid [ Common name ] Is HCOOH .
→ The IUPAC name of formic acid is Methanoic acid .
(2). What happens when we apply baking soda on bee stung area? Why?
→ When a honey-bee stings a person, it injects an acidic liquid called formic acid into the skin which causes immense pain and irritation. If the bee stings a person, then rubbing a mild base like baking soda solution on the stung area of the skin gives relief.
→ This is because being a base baking soda neutralizes the acid liquid injected by bee sting and cancels its effect.
3. Write the complete Neutralization reaction for the above?
→ The reaction of formic acid and baking soda :-
(4). Write Saponification Reaction?
→ The alkaline hydrolysis of esters ( using alkali like sodium hydroxide ) is known as saponification reaction .
→ This is because of the fact that this reaction is used for the preparation of soaps .
→ The reaction is :-
(5). Write Esterification reaction ?
→ The reaction in which a carboxylic acid combines with and alcohol to form an ester is called esterification reaction.
→ Esterification reaction takes place in the presence of a catalyst like concentrated sulphuric acid.
→ The reaction is :-
✔✔ Hence, it is solved ✅✅.
