Classification means diversifying the data into different groups

Explanation:

Classification is the method of arranging data into homogeneous groups according to their resemblances and affinities, and presenting in a systematic form. This helps in easy comparison and analysis. It is also defined as the method of separating the data into diverse classes which are as homogeneous as possible within the classes, but heterogeneous among themselves.

Classification of data has many salient features. Those are:

- It facilitates easy comparison within classes.

- It reduces the complexity of data

- It enables proper utilization of data for further process and analysis

There are four types of classification of data:

1. Chronological classification: the process of classifying data according to time is called chronological classification. In this type of classification, data are classified either in ascending or in descending order with orientation to time like years, months, quarters, weeks, etc.

2. Quantitative classification: the process of classifying data measured on numerical scale or the magnitude  is known as quantitative classification or classification by size. For e.g.: weight, height, income, etc.

3. Qualitative classification: the process of classifying data on the basis of some attributes or qualities is known as qualitative classification. It includes honesty, marital status, intelligence, etc.

4. Geographical classification: the process of classifying data with reference to geographical locations is known as Geographical classification. It is also called  ‘spatial classification’. For e.g.: countries, cities, districts, states, etc.
