1. Complete the following activity to solve the equations 3x + y = 5 and 2x + 3y = 1.
3x + y = 5 ... (1)
2x + 3y =1...(2)
To eliminate y, we multiply 3 with equation (1),
? +3y = 15 (3)
Subtracting equation (2) from equation (3)
? + 3y = 15
2x + 3y = 1
x= ?
X= ?
Substituting the value of x in equation (1), we get
3x + y = 5
3x ? + y = 5
On simplifying, we get,
y = ?

3x + y = 5 multiply with 3 both sides

we get 9x + 3y = 15 (3)

after subtracting eqn (2) by (3)

we get x=2

after substituting

we get y= -1
