Construction of rectangle ABCD with the following data is as follows

(a) AB = 4 cm, BC = 6 cm

Steps of construction:

Draw a line segment AB of scale 4 cm.

From point B draw a perpendicular line of scale 6 cm.

Mark that point as C.

From point C draw a line parallel to AB.

From point A draw a perpendicular line.

A point where the lines from points A and C intersect, mark it as D.

Hence the required construction.

(b) AB = 6 cm, AC = 7.2 cm

Steps of construction:

Draw a line segment AB of scale 6 cm.

From point A draw a perpendicular line of scale 7.2 cm.

Mark that point as C.

From point C draw a line parallel to AB.

From point B draw a perpendicular line.

A point where the lines from points b and C intersect, mark it as D.

Hence the required construction.
