Given

  • Radius of curvature = 3 m
  • Image position = 5 m

To Find

  • The position, nature and size of the image

Solution

☯ 1/v + 1/u = 1/f

☯ M = -v/u

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

According to the Question :

➞ 1/v + 1/u = 1/f

  • v = ?
  • u = -5
  • f = 3/2

➞ 1/v + 1/(-5) = 2/3

➞ 1/v = 2/3 + 1/5

➞ 1/v = (10 + 3)/15

➞ 1/v = 13/15

➞ v = 15/13 m

➞ v = 1.15 m

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Then the magnification of the image would be,

➞ M = -v/u

➞ M = -1.15/(-5)

➞ M = 0.23

Therefore,

  • The image is virtual, erect, at 1.15 m & is diminished

Answer:

Question :-

  • Convex mirror with a radius of curvature of 3 m is used as rear view mirror for a vehic if a bus is located at 5 m from this mirror,

Find Out :

  • The position, nature and size of the image.

Answer :-

Given :

➭ Radius = 3 m

➭ Image position = 5 m

We know that,

1/v + 1/u = 1/f

➻ 1/v + 1/-5 = 2/3

➻ 1/v = 2/3 + 1/5

➻ 1/v = 10 + 3/5

➻ 1/v = 13/5

➻ v = 15/13

v = 1.15 m

Hence, the image distance is 1.15 m.

Now, as we know that,

m = - v/u

m = - (1.15)/- 5

m = 1.15/5

m = 115/5 × 100

m = 23/100

m = 0.03

The image is erect, virtual and it is diminished.
