Answer:

(1)

Definition:

An acid is a molecule or ion capable of either donating a proton, known as a Brønsted–Lowry acid, or, capable of forming a covalent bond with an electron pair, known as a Lewis acid. The first category of acids are the proton donors, or Brønsted–Lowry acids.

These properties are:

  • Aqueous solutions of acids are electrolytes, meaning that they conduct electrical current.

  • Acids have a sour taste.

  • Acids change the color of certain acid-base indicates.

  • Acids react with active metals to yield hydrogen gas.

  • Acids react with bases to produce a salt compound and water.

(2)

Definition:

Bases are those substances which have bitter taste. They turn red litmus to blue. Those bases which are soluble in water are called alkali. For Example: NaOH,KOH, ‎Mg(OH) 2 , NH 4OH. A base is a substance which dissolves in water to produce hydroxide ion in solution.

Chemical Properties of Bases:

  • Bases change the colour of litmus from red to blue.

  • They are bitter in taste.

  • Bases lose their basicity when mixed with acids.

  • Bases react with acids to form salt and water.

  • They can conduct electricity.

  • Bases feel slippery or soapy.

  • Some bases are great conductors of electricity.

acids are the sour subtrance present

in many citric fruits like

orange and lemon.acids present

in citric fruits can not

harm us.for eg kSO4

properties of acids

•they are red when tested from litmus.

•soluble in water

• not soapy to touch

•sour in taste

bases are the bitter subtrances which

react with acides to form salts and water.

for example CAOH

properties of base

•bitter in taste

•all the bases are not soluble in water

•they are red when tested from litmus paper.

•soapy to touch .
