Explanation:

James Mill has divided the Indian history into three parts- Hindu, Muslim and British. According to him, before the arrival of British, Hindu and Muslim fought to rule over the country. Religious intolerance, caste taboos and superstitious practices dominated in social life. He also felt, that British rule could civilise Indian people. To do this it was necessary to introduce European manners, arts, institutions and laws in India. In simple words, he felt that the people of India do not knew the proper way of living and could not be civilized. And this statement was afterwards came to be highly unacceptable by many Indian historians. After gaining independence, the development has been also done in India itself.
