Answer:
1 -The Felling of the Banyan Tree focuses on a particular time in a family's history when a drastic decision has to be made by the father. This decision involves the demolition of houses on a hill and the cutting down of a huge tree which has stood for centuries in the same spot.
2 - A banyan tree's life cycle is a unique one, it grows as an epiphyte. It may live for more than 200 years or even 400-450 years. ... The poet has subtly juxtaposed a human life to that of a banyan.

'Feeling of banyan tree' by Dilip Chitre's.
- The poet was deeply hurt by the cutting of the banyan tree, It was considered scary by his grandmother. The poet's father informed all the tenants to vacant their houses so that they could proceed with demolition. Everything was demolished except the poet's house and the banyan tree. The banyan tree was thrice the size of the poet's house. It has strong roots. They proceeded to cut it down. They started with the branches where birds and insects live. fifty men put effort to cut the tree.
- The line 'whose root lay deeper than all of our lives' means the poet compares the life of the tree and the human. Both human and plants have life, as human plants and tree breath and provide oxygen to human which is very essential for our lives. In general, humans live up to 70-100 yrs whereas this banayan tree was 200yrs old therefore its root is deeper than all of our lives as it is the oldest.
