Different states of matter have varied forces of attraction between the particles because of inter molecular spaces between the particles i.e.more larger the intermolecular space lesser is the forces of attraction. For example matter is known to have three states namely solid liquid and gas in which gases have the least forces of attraction followed by liquids and solids in descending order.

Please pardon my english. It is very bad

Melting point of indicates the strength of the force of attraction between the particles. On heating a solid, its molecules absorb energy in the form of heat and their kinetic energy increases. ... ... So the molecules in which ionic bonds are present have high melting point and vice-versa.
