Answer:

Explanation:

Atom is just like a sphere, atomic radius is same as radius of sphere.

Moreover, it is the distance between the last shell and nucleus.

Atomic radius increases when -ve charge is decreased and decreases when -ve is increased.

In a period, -ve charge increases so, from left to right atomic radius decreases.

for ease I have written wrt -ve charge, it is actually because of nuclear charge( +ve charge ).

Similarly, keeping the e- constant, when shells are increased, atomic radius increases. So, down to period, it increases.

It is effected by nuclear charge , number of shells.

ATOMIC RADIUS

1) What is meant by Atomic Radius?

Distance between nucleus of an atom and to it's outermost shell is termed as 'Atomic Radius'.

2) What are changes in Atomic Radius in group & period?

In Periods, Atomic Radius goes on Decreasing from going left to right.

In Groups, Atomic Radius goes on increasing from going down.

3) What are factors effecting on Atomic Radius?

Atomic Radius is mainly factored by following reasons. They are :-

  • Atomic No. of element

  • Electronic Configuration of an element

  • Valency of an element
