1.No , different people living in different regions have different notions of development or progress .

2.Limitations of per capita income are :

(i) A rise in per capita income is due to rise in prices and not due to increase in physical output, it is not a reliable index of economic development.

(ii) National income rises but its distribution makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.

3.Main concern with regard to sustainable development is as follows: To meet their own needs without compromising the future ability of future generation, sustainable development meets the present need. It defines that the current level of resources can be used as for future it will not leave sufficient level.

4.The HDI gives an overall index of economic development. It gives a rough ability to make comparisons on issue of of economic welfare - much more than just using GDP statistics. Human Development Index is important because it helps us to know how a country is doing. It is a better measure of a country's progress.

5.Environmental degradation is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources such as air, water and soil; the destruction of ecosystems; habitat destruction; the extinction of wildlife; and pollution. ... There are many examples of environmental degradation throughout the world.

(ii) It is concerned with the well-being of the people, their needs, choices and aspirations. All these help in building a right kind of society. (iii) It is all about the enlarging or widening the choices for the people. It is the building of human capabilities, such as to lead a long and a healthy life, to have education, information and knowledge, to have opportunities of livelihood, etc.

(iv) Human development focuses on the expansion of basic choices.
