Yes, I think Arunima was exceptionally brave. She did not allow the loss of her left leg due to a train accident to pull her down. Instead, she decided that she would scale Mount Everest and worked towards accomplishing the goal. Finally, in 2013, she managed to do just what she planned to do. This made her the first female amputee in the world and the first amputee from India who managed to achieve this feat.

Determined to not let the unfortunate incident overtake her life, Arunima decided that she had to do something about it. She started training for her feat and under the guidance of Bachendri Pal became the first woman to climb Mount Everest with prosthetic legs.

My neighbour recently spent a year volunteering with an organisation in India that works to rescue people from slavery, specifically girls and women being trafficked for sexual slavery. I think moving to a foreign country and giving up having an income for a year is brave. But to open yourself up willingly to hearing about some of the worst things humans do to one another, to risk hearing stories that may haunt you forever because you want to help people change their lives? That's a special kind of brave.
