According to me,Gregor was a very dutiful son because he used to work very hard as a travel sales person and his employer expected a lot from him.
But one day Gregor became sick and was unable to go to work.His family which was dependent on his salary,used to worry about their funances.Here we can understand that Gregor was a dutiful son because he used to stay close to the wall to hear the discussion of the family.even though he could not help them but he always wanted to get well and go back to his work and help the financial condition of his family.But it's really tragic that Gregor dies in the end and nobody in his family really cares about it and decide to move to another apartment.
