3.Soaps are sodium or potassium salts of long chain carboxylic acids. Soaps have lesser cleansing action or quality as compared to detergents.

Detergents are ammonium or solphonate salts of long chain carboxylic acids. Detergents have better cleansing action as compared to soaps.
