1. The various functions of the gram panchayat include:

  • They are responsible for the complete welfare of the village including maintaining roads, proper lighting, and facilities to the people.
  • They collect the local taxes and initiate any government-related schemes.
  • The medical and health-related schemes must be introduced to the village by the Gram Panchayat.

2. The composition of the Zila Parishad is as follows:

  • There is a Chairperson who is appointed by the members of the Parishad.
  • Pradhan, who is a member of the Panchayat Samiti within the district.
  • MPs, MLAs, and Block Development Officers of the same district.
  • Members of Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad.
  • Members from the Schedule castes, Schedule tribes, and OBCs.

3. The main function of the Zila Parishad is to coordinate the activities of the Panchayat in all the developmental activities that is, it prepares the plan for the district development and coordinates the plan to the state government and the panchayat so that it can be implemented as soon as possible.

4. The difference between the Gram Panchayat and Gram Sabha are:

  • The lower body of the Panchayati raj is the Gram panchayat and the Gram Sabha is the legislative body that functions at the village level.
  • The Gram Panchayat can be re-elected that is, it is not a permanent body. The Gram Sabha is the permanent body.
  • The function of the Gram Panchayat includes the development of the village while the function of the Gram Sabha includes the welfare and development of the Panchayat.

5. The formation of the self-governing bodies has led to the development of the local places because any issue can be raised and resolved collectively by these bodies hence the work of the state and the central government are reduced and establishes an environment of autonomy. Civic rights are also enjoyed by the people since these bodies work for a cause that is social welfare.
