1. Calcium oxide(a base), when added to acidic soil neutralises the effect of the acid and makes the soil suitable for growth.

2. When soil is too acidic plants can’t grow in them.

1) CaO is a base, thus it will react with the acid to neutralize the soil.

2) It's important as it affects the bacterial and biologically activity in the soil harmful for soil, plants, yeild and also bacteria present in soil which may help the plant (Leguminous).
