  1. Over thousands of years, smaller pieces of rocks changed into soil under the combined effect of water, wind, roots of plants, temperature variations and mechanical collision. soil is a mixture of rock particles, sand, and a layer of dead and decayed plant and animals remains called humus. it is the uppermost layer of the earth crust.
  2. Clayey soil contains many minerals. it can hold large quantity of water. it however, cannot trap air. therefore clayey soil is suitable for the plants which require standing water, such as paddy.this soil mostly contain clay particles and a small quantity of humus and sit. this soil compact and can hold water, but cannot trap air.
