A ) Social changes in Britain that led to an increase in women readers: (i)The most exciting element of the novel was the involvement of women. The eighteenth century saw the middle classes become more prosperous. (ii)Women got more leisure to read as well as write novels.
B ) Actions of Robinson Crusoe: (i)Shipwrecked on an island, Crusoe treats coloured people not as human beings equal to him, but as inferior creatures. (ii)He rescues a 'native' and makes him his slave. (iii)He does not ask for his name but arrogantly gives him the name Friday.
C ) Robinson Crusoe's actions that make us see him as a typical coloniser are many. Shipwrecked on an island inhabited by coloured people, Crusoe treats them as inferior beings. He is portrayed as "rescuing" a native and then making him a slave. He gives him the name Friday, without even caring to ask for his name.
D ) After 1740, the readership of novels began to include poorer people because of the introduction of circulating libraries, low-priced books, and also because of the system of hiring out of books by the hour.
* Novelists in colonial India wrote for a political cause because the novel was a powerful medium for expressing social defects and suggesting remedies for the same. It also helped establish a relationship with the past. *

Answer:
A demerit is also a fault or weakness. If you're trying to decide which candidate to vote for, consider the merits and demerits of each. The other kind of demerit is a punishment — a negative mark against someone, especially a student or a member of the military
