1. Explain the following : (a) When two pins are hung by their heads from the same pole of a magnet, their pointed ends fly apart.

When the two pins are hung from the same pole of a magnet, they get magnetized and both acquire the opposite polarity of that of the original magnet piece. Now, these two pins have the same polarity. As like poles repel, these two pins repel each other. Hence, their two ends fly apart.
