A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances whose composition can be varied.

Salt in water and Sugar in water are examples of solution

A solute is a substance that dissolves in other substances. Solute is in smaller quantity in a solution.

Eg: sugar, salt,etc

A solvent is a medium in which a solute dissolves. It is in larger quantity in a solution.

Eg: water

Salt+water where salt is solute and water is solvent.
